Michael Smith
Michael D. Smith is a consultant working in the areas of digital imaging, signal processing and intellectual property, with recent work for organizations including Warner Brothers, DTS Digital Cinema, DivX Networks, Dolby Laboratories, Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), Cinea, Path1 Networks (acquired by IP Video Networks Inc.), Ikona Medical, Infinite Biomedical, PhatNoise Inc. (acquired by Harman International), and Mojix Inc.
In addition to his technical work, Michael also performs intellectual property consulting related to infringement and invalidity analysis with recent work for various law firms including Irell & Manella, Paul Hastings, Clark Wilson, Burns & Levinson, Jenkens & Gilchrist and KKSR. He has also served as a testifying expert in an arbitration related to mobile video compression technology. He is an active participant in the SMPTE DC28 Digital Cinema standards group and is a member of the Board of Editors for the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. He is a member of SMPTE, SPIE and AES. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 2001 and 2004.
