Mark Landay

Mark J. Landay is Managing Director of Dynamic Synergy, a premier retained executive recruitment firm. In business for over two decade and Dun & Bradstreet rated, Dynamic Synergy provides start up and growth companies with retained executive recruitment.  Approximately 33% of the companies Mark has consulted to have had positive exits!  

Prior to executive search, Mr. Landay worked in private equity and has been recognized as an industry expert in both technology & executive search.  Mark is the President of LA CEOs, a founding mentor for the Founders Institute, Chairman of SoCal Tech Group, and the Chairman Emeritus of the Harvard Business School Angels of Southern California.

 


Joe Stubbs

Joseph Stubbs
Joe Stubbs is a former partner in the global law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP in Los Angeles, California, and is a founder and partner of the Firm. He is co-chair person of the Venture Capital and Emerging Growth Practice Group.

Joe practices in the areas of corporate and securities law, emphasizing the corporate representation of both publicly-held and privately-held growth and middle-market companies, venture capital firms, angel investment groups and investment banks. He acts as outside general counsel to numerous emerging growth and technology companies, advising on a wide range of legal and strategic issues at each stage of a company’s evolutionary path. He particularly concentrates on advising such companies in preparing for and successfully completing their angel and venture capital financing transactions and their initial and follow-on public offerings. He also serves as outside general counsel to various publicly-held companies, providing advice on all aspects of their business activities, including securities law compliance and corporate governance matters. His experience includes public and private issuances of securities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate partnerships and restructurings, and technology licensing.

Joe has lectured and written extensively on subjects relating to emerging growth companies, venture capital transactions, and public and private offerings of securities. He has been a frequent lecturer at programs sponsored by, among others, The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, The Software Council of Southern California, The Practicing Law Institute, the CalTech Enterprise Forum, the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and The Rutter Group.

Joe is the Co-Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Los Angeles Regional Technology Alliance (LARTA), and serves on the steering committee of the Southern California Technology Venture Forum and on the executive committee of the CalTech Enterprise Forum.

He received his B.A. from Southwest Missouri State University in 1972 and his J.D from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1975. He is a member of the California and Missouri Bars.

Thomas W. Turney

Thomas Turney
Mr. Turney has been with NewCap Partners since its founding in 1987, and currently serves as its Managing Principal.  Mr. Turney has been involved in a variety of merger and acquisition transactions during his career with NewCap Partners.   He has also participated in a variety of financing transactions, with a particular focus on management buyouts. 

Prior to founding NewCap Partners,  Mr. Turney was with Hambrecht & Quist where he was responsible for the firm's equity financing activities in Southern California.  Mr. Turney provided a range of equity financing alternatives including venture capital, private placements and public offerings. He was also engaged in various merger and acquisition activities and corporate partnering transactions while at Hambrecht & Quist.

Prior to joining Hambrecht & Quist, Mr. Turney managed Security Pacific Bank's technology lending business unit which was responsible for providing debt financing to high technology companies.  The bank's technology portfolio consisted of approximately fifty customers ranging in size from start-up to over $1 billion in annual revenues. Transactions completed by the unit included debt financings to accomplish specific objectives such as acquisitions, leveraged buyouts and working capital expansion.

Mr. Turney has also held positions with Hughes Aircraft Company and Union Bank. He has an MA in Economics and an MBA from the University of Southern California and a BA in Economics from UCLA.

Mr. Turney currently serves on the boards of The Olson Company, M.C. Gill Corporation, Mark IV Capital Inc., King's Seafood Company and the Aquarium of the Pacific as well as its Marine Conservation Research Institute. 

 John M. Morris

After a 20+ year career in venture capital and early stage investing with earlier experience in public accounting, financial management and investment banking, John currently chairs a CEO advisory group for Vistage International. Members meet monthly as a peer group to collaborate on each other’s issues and opportunities. The Vistage mission is geared to developing better leaders who are making better decisions and getting better results. 

For the prior ten years, John was a partner with an expansion stage venture capital firm focused on emerging information technology companies. John is also Chairman Emeritus of the Tech Coast Angels (TCA), the largest angel investor organization in the country, and was co-founder and a past president of TCA Los Angeles. In this career, he has worked closely with a number of entrepreneurs who are trying to pursue their dreams of starting their own business. This role carries over to the academic community. John is a part time member of the faculty at UCLA Anderson School of Management. He serves as a faculty advisor to MBA teams for both the fully employed (FEMBA) and the executive MBA (EMBA) programs.

During his career, John has served on the boards of both public and private companies and currently is a board member for three venture backed companies. John has been an active member of the business community in Los Angeles. He is a former director for Los Angeles Venture Association (LAVA).  He was an economics major at UCLA and earned his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He is married and enjoys golf, scuba diving, adventure travel and digital photography.
